Job Description
The specialist will act as a Produce and Perishables consultant and advisor to independent grocery stores serviced by Affiliated Foods Midwest. Focus will be on calling on existing accounts to advise them regarding their Produce and Perishables Departments. Will advise stores on promotion and sales programs, assist or set up special in store promotions, teach and train produce department staff. Product selection and promotions for our billion dollar+ business will be part of your responsibilities as an aspect of the marketing responsibilities. Will work on re-sets and new store sets along with other Retail Development Team members from Affiliated Foods. Will be called upon to review store programs, complete store call reports, and make recommendations to stores for increased sales and programs. Will advise re: P& L for perishables departments in stores. Will use electronic information system through laptop computer.
Requirements: Previous experience in retail grocery perishables and management of produce departments at grocery retail level, and grocery store operations - preferably with independently owned grocery stores. Expertise in produce departments; knowledge to include product knowledge, trends, pricing, product handling and care, promotional activities, ability to make recommendations to increase profit in this department, as well as store layout and design that increase sales. Experience in buying produce products in a large volume setting will be advantageous. Must have a valid drivers license and be an insurable driver. Computer experience desirable.
Must possess strong integrity and customer service skills, be able to meet the physical demand of setting product and performing produce, floral and perishables department functions.
Other Information: Location: Will cover mid-states region of our territory: Western Minnesota, Western Iowa and as assigned. Living location to be discussed with candidate. Company vehicle will be provided in addition to salary and full benefits. Must be licensed, insurable driver.
