Job Description

 

Office Location: Northern Oregon (Portland Area), Southern Washington (Vancouver Area) Need to be centrally located for access to our stores in NW

 

Travel is required from 60% to 70% of the time.

  

SUMMARY

Responsible for assisting the Operations and Purchasing Departments to ensure assigned categories are merchandised and priced according to G.O.I. Standards. Responsible for assistiing the efforts of operators in the areas of disciplines, quality of product, standards and merchandising. Maximize sales potential by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Responsible for assisting and educating operators in achieving profitable results in sales, marketing, merchandising and inventory management.
  • Responsible for developing operators to improve sales, communicate good ordering procedures, inventory control, backroom organization, proper variety in stock.
  • Responsible for supporting operators in the area of marketing and special promotions to ensure that store activities are in concert with program objectives.
  • Responsible for continuing to raise the level of standards of performance insuring proper representation, merchandising and pricing of inventory.
  • Responsible for monitoring standards of performance in assigned categories, making recommendations for improvement when necessary.
  • Assist in the recruitment, training and development of future Produce and Floral personnel.
  • Act as a liaison between operators and G.O.I., including but not limited to the following:
  • Encourage participation in open dialogue to improve the overall functions and profitability and success.
  • Recommendations for procurement, and become fully knowledgeable of companies information systems at store level.
  • Monitor marketing efforts in assigned categories.
  • Assist in the development of new marketing strategies.
  • Assist in the development of perishable department design and fixture requirements.
  • Assist in the design and layout of fixtures and merchandise for all new and remodeled departments that contain assigned categories.
  • Work with Information Systems department to develop, test and implement the technology needed to streamline business practices.
  • Assist the operators in complying with federal, state and local laws and regulations COO.
  • Responsible for monitoring operators compliance with all product handling policies and procedures, including those required by all vendors, including but not limited to receiving and credit procedures.
  • Assist operators in assuring trained Produce and Floral personnel are in place in each store and adequate time to maintain department is scheduled.
  • Responsible for working with the Purchasing department to maintain and improve quality of product.
  • Responsible for working with the training department to revise and expand manuals and other training materials as necessary.
  • Support the training department to ensure proper training of all operators and aspiring operators.
  • Responsible for maintaining an effective line of communication to the stores regarding products, market conditions and changes in G.O.I. policy and procedures regarding assigned categories.
  • Assist operators to organize Produce and Floral departments and develop produce layout and space allocations to capitalize on neighborhood demographics in order to maximize sales.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Travel is required from 60% to 70% of the time.

  • B.A. Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Five to ten years in the industry with two years in a management position.
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, must be able to make timely and effective decisions.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, financial statements, government regulations and legal documents.  
  • Ability to write presentations and present information effectively to top management, public groups, suppliers and/or operators.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manual.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with all store operators and company personnel.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

     

    The physical demands and work environment described below is representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

    The employee must possess the ability to stand in place for long periods of time; walk in the store; bend, stoop and kneel regularly.  Requires fine finger and broad manual dexterity, and eye-hand-foot coordination in order to operate equipment.

    This position requires the employee have the ability to have full range of upper body motion in order to occasionally lift stock.  Requires the ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.

    Must possess functional sensory abilities in order to visually monitor the store, create attractive displays, and to operate equipment.

    Working conditions consist primarily of a temperature-controlled environment.  The ability to work outside checking store property, in walk-in coolers or freezers for short periods of time is necessary. 

    This job involves exposure to changing temperature and humidity (i.e. freezers, coolers and warehouse). Chemical cleaning agents, irritating or competing noises or other irritating substances, and working in areas with wet and slippery floors.
