Job Description

Responsible for the procurement and buying activities of meat products. Selects reliable sources of supply, Places or supervises the placement of orders, and arranges for the routing of shipments. Reviews and recommends new products, quality, grades and the number of items carried. Responsible for size product inventory and rate of turnover. Assists in the training of less experienced meat buyers.

Duties: (not inclusive)

•Assists in the coordination of the procurement of meat and deli products.
•Reviews meat storage areas to ensure proper rotation and the required code dates.
•Maintains proper inventory control, service level, and profits for the department.
•Responsible for keeping all costs current with the market and on-going updates.
•Maintains a weekly markdown sheet.
•Communicates any new item information, shortages, and special buys with department personnel.
•Acts as a facilitator for Deli Operations. Works closely with Deli Merchandisers/Counselors.
•Assists in approving vendor payments.
•Evaluates new items, service level, and inventory levels with respective vendors.
•Visits retail accounts regularly.
•Responsible for calling on assigned accounts for daily meat orders.
•Reviews with Minneapolis various fresh meat needs.
•Responsible for handling any rebates or billback money from vendors.
•Manages department operations in absence of the Head Meat Buyer.

Requirements:

•Five years minimum wholesale meat experience - procurement.
•Possess excellent communication and leadership skills.
•Be Performance Driven - drive to discover, develop, and execute new programs to create sales and profits for the future growth of our company.
•Computer skills - intermediate skills on Excel, Beginner level on Word, and Lotus notes.
