- In 1923, Sidney and Mollie Ball started a small neighborhood grocery store on the corner of 16th and Stewart streets in Kansas City, KS. Eighty years later, that humble beginning has evolved into a company that employs over 4,000 people. There have been many changes in our business since 1923. The one thing that hasn't changed, however, is our philosophy based on the words of Sidney Ball, that "Our grocery store is only as good as the people who work there."
