In 1936, new commuter rail lines were driving the growth of the New York suburbs and Kings got on board, opening our first super market in Summit, New Jersey.
From the start, we were determined to build a business by building a supportive relationship with shoppers and their communities. Kings, for example, was one of the first chains in the country to offer air-conditioned stores, free parking and S&H Green Stamps. We've developed innovative programs to support local food growers and egg and dairy farmers, benefiting suppliers and shoppers alike.
And in the early 1970s, we established one of the industry's first full-time consumer advocate departments to proactively address customer issues.
Today, Kings remains devoted to providing shoppers in Northern New Jersey and Long Island the highest levels of service, freshness and quality.
