- Due to the experience and backgrounds of the founding principals, the company's original emphasis was in the areas of general accounting and point-of-sale systems. In addition to the company headquarters in Virginia Beach, Data Business Systems established an office in northern Virginia to service the northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. area clients. We recently opened an office in Roanoke to serve central and western Virginia. The company has a staff of over 70 people who are concentrated in the areas of marketing, training, support, programming, on-site service and installation. At present, the field service staff numbers 25 people, over a quarter of the company's human resources. As the microcomputer, or PC, technology emerged in the 1980's, Data Business Systems realized the potential impact of this technology to businesses both large and small. After a period of evaluation, Data Business Systems sought dealerships from some of the major manufacturers of microcomputers and related hardware and software. At present, Data Business Systems is an authorized reseller and service center for Compaq, IBM, NCR, Panasonic, Hewlett-Packard, 3Com, Novell, Okidata, Epson and many other products. To understand the company's growth, it is necessary to be aware that PC based software now provides business solutions which were previously affordable only by the largest firms in a given industry.
