The business was named Columbus Wine Company Distributors. It was Columbus Wine Company that unloaded the first carload of legal liquor in Columbus following the end of the Prohibition.
The first generation ended with the death of Fate Leebern in 1946 and the second began under the direction of his son, Donald Leebern, Sr. Following his death in 1957, the third generation began under the direction of his son, Donald M. Leebern, Jr. In September, 1987, the fourth generation, Don Leebern, III joined the company.
Georgia Crown Distributing Company is a full service beverage distributor, with twelve wholesale operations doing business in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, selling imported and domestic spirits, wines, beers and specialty products. In 1990 Georgia Crown entered the home and office bottled water business with its new division, Poland Spring Water Distributing Company and in 1991 opened its first bottling plant producing bottled water from its spring in Dahlonega, Georgia. Hence, Melwood Springs was born, Georgia Crown's own private labeled spring water.
In its early years, Georgia Crown began operating as a distributor for Seagram Distillers Company. Today the company is Georgia's largest wholesale distributor for The House of Seagram. In addition to the House of Seagram products, Georgia Crown is fortunate in representing other major suppliers as well.
